Firearm Safety Education Service of Ontario
|
The Firearm Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO) is the professional association of instructors in Ontario who are certified by the Chief Firearms Office to teach and / or examine the Canadian Firearm Safety Course (CFSC) and / or the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC).
Our MissionTo provide quality firearms training to the residents of Ontario at a reasonable cost.
FSESO ProfileThe FSESO was founded in 1993 by firearms enthusiasts who believed that the best people to offer training to firearm owners were people who loved the sport and wanted it to prosper. In order to be recognized as a professional association, the FSESO had to prove to the government that it could develop and maintain all the required programs. A code of ethics, an audit program to monitor the quality of instruction, professional development programs, certification programs, training aids, and a process for handling complaints from the public all had to be created and implemented. The FSESO is a self-funded organization; the sales of manuals and tests are used to cover all operating expenses and to help fund special projects like the development of videos and training aids. Each province has its own delivery method for the Canadian Firearms Safety Courses. In Ontario, each instructor / examiner delivers the course directly to the public. They set their own prices and do most of their own administration. As of July 1st, 2004 the following maximum fees apply to the Canadian Firearms Safety Course program delivery in Ontario: Canadian Firearms Safety Course (10 hrs) and Test Maximum $130.00 Canadian Firearms Safety Course (Test Only) Maximum $ 40.00 Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (10 hrs) and Test Maximum $130.00 Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (Test Only) Maximum $ 40.00 Both Canadian Firearms Safety Course and & Restricted Course (Includes both tests & Minimum 16 hours classroom instruction) Maximum $220.00 Manuals not included in these prices.
Course RequirementsThe CFSC and the CRFSC course and/or examination are required for those individuals who wish to apply for a Possession and Acquisition Firearm Licence. The entire course and test are mandatory to obtain a Minors Licence (between the ages of 12 and 18), and for those persons previously prohibited from the possession of firearms.
